NFL Mock Draft: Seahawks Select Georgia TE Brock Bowers

The Seattle Seahawks have a couple of roster holes that need plugging, and in Bucky Brooks' mock draft, Geno Smith gets a play-making tight end with Georgia's Brock Bowers.

The Seattle Seahawks offense showed glimpses of what it could become under Geno Smith last season, with the 41-35 loss to the Dallas Cowboys perhaps the best showing for the unit after lighting up the Dallas secondary.

Just three times did the Seahawks surpass 30 points last season as under Shane Waldron as the offense struggled to put up big scores (ranked 17th for points per game at 21.4).

But in Bucky Brooks' latest mock draft for NFL.com, the Seahawks bolster the offense with the selection of Georgia star tight end Brock Bowers.

"Seattle needs a playmaker in the aerial attack with the potential to control the middle of the field," Brooks writes. "Bowers' presence would create more big-play opportunities for the Seahawks' perimeter pass catchers."

With an offense that already has D.K. Metcalf, Tyler Lockett, and Jaxon Smith-Njigba to complement running backs Kenneth Walker and Zach Charbonnet, adding a genuine tight end threat could be the missing piece of the Seahawks' puzzle.

While the offensive line needs are still there, adding Bowers, who was Georgia's leading receiver with 714 yards and six touchdowns from his 56 receptions, would give Seattle a No. 1  tight end on offense.

Noah Fant (32 catches, 414 yards) and Colby Parkinson (25 catches, 247 yards, two touchdowns) were serviceable this past season, but Seattle needs something more from its tight end unit.

With Bowers, the Seahawks are getting a great blocker, but also just as good as a pass-catching option which has made him easily the best tight end in the draft and one that teams will be clamoring to select.

Adding Bowers to Ryan Grubb's offense would give the Seahawks another stud in the pass game, and with the offense looking to establish the run with Walker and Charbonnet, Bowers can be just as useful blocking as well.

There might be other pressing needs, but if Bowers is indeed still on the board at No. 16, the Seahawks might find it too hard to resist taking the Georgia standout.
