Seattle Seahawks a 'Long Shot' to Land New England Patriots Ex Coach Bill Belichick: Report

The Seattle Seahawks have yet to fill the void left by coach Pete Carroll, but maybe it's best not to rush a process the team hasn't gone through in 14 seasons.

In an offseason that's been full of the usual league-wide head coaching changes, the Seahawks are just one of two teams now just one of since the regular season ended on Jan. 7, joining the Washington Commanders. Both teams will need to make a decision soon in order to get the new regime rolling for next season, but as they look to do so, one massive name suddenly came into the fold.

Per reports from The Athletic, the Seahawks and Commanders are both viewed as a "long shot" to hire former New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick in the same role.

"Former New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick is viewed as a long shot for the Washington Commanders and Seattle Seahawks coaching vacancies, league sources said," the Athletic wrote.

However, this "long shot" distinction has more to do with the interest of both teams then it does with Belichick's desire to join them.

Despite being arguably the best football coach of all time, the 71-year-old Belichick hasn't reportedly received any major interest from teams around the league except the Atlanta Falcons, who interviewed him twice before it was reported Thursday that Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator Raheem Morris would take over as head coach.

The Seahawks and Commanders would reportedly need to have "a change of direction for something to happen" in regards to hiring Belichick. It appears that both teams have already been zeroing in on their guy while Belichick is a fading possibility if something falls through.

Seattle general manager John Schneider made it clear that the team is going to hire someone who will fit the culture that the Seahawks have built over the past decade-plus. If the team thought Belichick was a fit, then we likely would've heard about a potential interview at this point. The desire just doesn't seem to be there.

As it stands, it appears that the future Hall of Famer and eight-time Super Bowl won't be a head coach in the NFL next season for the first time in 24 years, though anything can happen.
