Seahawks Announce Official Return Date For 1990s Throwback Uniforms
After years of anticipation, the Seattle Seahawks will unveil their first set of throwback uniforms with their original logo only a few days before Halloween.
As confirmed officially by the team, the Seahawks will don 1990s era blue and silver throwbacks when they face the Browns at Lumen Field on October 29. At this time, the uniforms aren't expected to be worn for a second game during the 2023 season and retail launch plans will be announced in the near future.
Players and fans alike have been clamoring for Seattle to bust out throwback uniforms for years. However, the NFL enacted the controversial one-helmet rule in 2013, which created a major obstacle for the franchise with current helmets being navy and the original helmets featuring a silver shell. Under such rules, genuine throwbacks were impossible to wear.
But the league scrapped the rule in 2020, opening the door for the Seahawks and other teams facing a similar helmet color dilemma to bring back throwback uniforms. Due to supply-related issues coming out of the pandemic, the organization had to postpone plans for classic 90s threads with white and green piping to return until the 2023 season, forcing fans and players eager to wear them to wait a bit longer.
Now, Seattle finally has a concrete date in place to officially turn back the clock. While fans anxiously await for the throwbacks to be revealed, linebacker Bobby Wagner gave them more reason to be excited, recently telling reporters that the jerseys "are fire."
Along with wearing throwbacks in late October, the Seahawks will also commemorate the 10th year anniversary of their Super Bowl XLVIII victory against the Panthers at Lumen Field on September 24. The franchise will welcome back iconic players from the championship squad and relive the historic season throughout the game.
