Seahawks 'Bargain': Sign Pro Bowler Melvin Ingram?

Having already bolstered their defensive front this offseason, the Seattle Seahawks could be seen as a potential landing spot for three-time Pro Bowler Melvin Ingram.

It's no secret that the Seattle Seahawks approached this offseason needing to improve along the defensive front. After all, they allowed teams to rush for 150.2 yards per game last season, the third-most in the league.

Knowing that, they have made several moves to bolster their front seven both through free agency and the draft. From signing guys like Dre'Mont Jones to a three-year deal to landing Auburn's Derick Hall in the second round of the draft, an effort has been made to get better.

Now, though, they could be in the market to land another veteran to further improve the unit. Heavy.com listed three-time Pro Bowl pass rusher Melvin Ingram as a potential signing that the Seahawks could pursue on a "bargain."

"Seattle could likely sign Ingram to a bit of a bargain contract," Heavy.com writes. "During the peak of his career, Ingram signed a four-year, $64 million contract with the Chargers in 2017. Since then, Ingram inked a series of one-year, $4 million deals with the Steelers and Dolphins."

Ingram is coming off a solid year with the Miami Dolphins, helping propel them to their first playoff berth since 2016. The veteran defensive end recorded 22 tackles, including seven for loss and six sacks. He also forced a fumble and recovered two, one of which he returned for a touchdown.

Like the site mentions, signing Ingram could most likely be done on an affordable deal, one that would fit within the Seahawks' remaining cap space.

"According to Spotrac, the Seahawks have a projected $8.6 million in remaining cap space," Heavy.com writes. "This is enough for Seattle to sign Ingram and potentially make another addition heading into training camp."

The Seahawks have undoubtedly improved their front seven ahead of the season, an effort that will hopefully produce results on the field. However, there is no such thing as too much depth, which could make Ingram a shrewd signing.
