Seahawks Still Have 'Work to Do' Along DL Says Pete Carroll

With a strong start in free agency, Pete Carroll discussed where the Seattle Seahawks stand with their interior defensive line.

The Seattle Seahawks entered the offseason knowing they needed to drastically improve their defensive front. They gave up 23.6 points per game on 361.7 yards of total offense last season, including an uninspiring 150.2 yards per game on the ground.

And so far through free agency, they've added multiple pieces that they will hope address said weakness. Signing defensive linemen Dre'Mont Jones and Jarran Reed were steps in the right direction, but coach Pete Carroll acknowledged they're not finished along the interior defensive line.

"We've got some work to do," Carroll said Wednesday. "We've done some work here in free agency, and we're going to continue in the draft, and we'll just keep battling throughout to put it together."

Luckily for Carroll and the Seahawks they find themselves in a prime position to add more pieces along the defensive line in the draft. With a pair of first-round picks, the first being at No. 5 overall, opens up plenty of doors for the Seahawks to get their guy.

"We made some big commitments that have gotten us to this point, and we're really excited about it, but it has left us with a few question marks we've got to get filled out, so there's plenty of time to get that done," he said.

They've been linked numerous times to edge Jalen Carter out of Georgia as well as edge Tyree Wilson out of Texas Tech, with several mock drafts having the Seahawks taking one of the two with their first pick.

Whoever the Seahawks do take is still to be seen, but it is clear that they are not satisfied with only the additions made to the defensive front so far. Adding either a Carter or Wilson, while not an immediate fix, will give them another key piece in what they hope will be a defensive turnaround.
