'Buddy From Bama!': Seahawks S Quandre Diggs Reveals Who He Wants With No. 5 Pick
When the Seattle Seahawks find themselves on the clock with No. 5 overall pick in the draft, there is no telling what direction they will choose go with regarding that pick.
They've been linked to several players with the fifth pick, from quarterback Anthony Richardson out of Florida to several of the elite defensive lineman or edge players available in the draft.
If the Seahawks do decide to bolster the defensive front, they are in a great position to do so at No. 5 overall, with a chance that the first four picks off the board are quarterbacks - a scenario safety Quandre Diggs wants to happen.
"What I hope? I hope they get four straight quarterbacks and we get buddy from Bama," Diggs said with a laugh on The Richard Sherman Podcast.
Diggs, of course, is referring to Alabama outside linebacker Will Anderson Jr. who is seen by some as the best prospect in this draft class. One look at Anderson Jr.'s stats and it isn't hard to see the appeal.
In his final season at Alabama, Anderson recorded 51 total tackles with 17 tackles for loss. While those numbers are nothing to scoff at, they're a "down" year when compared to his 2021 season which saw him record 101 total tackles, with a staggering 31 tackles for loss and 17.5 sacks.
Of course, even if Anderson does go somewhere in the first four picks, Sherman pointed out they still sit in an ideal situation at No. 5 overall.
"Seahawks got it crazy," Sherman said. "If the boy from Bama ain't there, that boy from Georgia is. They're gonna be sitting there like 'Mhm, he did that? Mhm. Damn man.' With the No. 5 pick, the Seattle Seahawks pick, out of Georgia. Defensive tackle (Jalen Carter)."
Carter has been a rather common mock draft pick for the Seahawks, potential off-field issues and work ethic aside. In his final season at Georgia, he recorded 32 total tackles including seven tackles for loss and three sacks to go with two forced fumbles.
Although Carter does have face questions surrounding his work ethic, Diggs is positive it wouldn't be an issue in Seattle.
"I'd take him!" Diggs said. "He'd get in tip-top shape. He'd get around Bobby (Wagner), you come around, Cliff (Avril) keep coming around. You get the right people around him and he'll learn. It'd be a great fit."
While there is no telling who the Seahawks will ultimately pick at No. 5 overall, whether it's Anderson or Carter they will be adding an elite player to a talented young core.
