Seahawks Mock Game: RB Injuries Piling Up?

The Seattle Seahawks were already dealing with extensive injuries at running back, and the blows kept coming during their mock game on Friday.

Throughout the first week and change of the Seattle Seahawks' training camp, a troubling trend has emerged.

To be specific, the Seahawks are dealing with a mountain of injuries in the backfield. Both of their top two running backs, 1,000-yard rusher Kenneth Walker III and second-round rookie Zach Charbonnet, have already been out since last week with shoulder injuries.

Then in Seattle's mock game on Friday, the problem grew even bigger. Seventh-round rookie Kenny McIntosh, the next man up after Walker and Charbonnet, suffered a sprained ankle that coach Pete Carroll did not know the severity of. Going even further, depth running back DeeJay Dallas was also limited with an ankle injury he suffered the previous day.

The sheer amount of injuries at one position is certainly daunting, but according to Carroll, the team is well-prepared to handle losses in the backfield. Additionally, the longtime Seahawks coach revealed the backs dealing with injury won't be out for long.

"We're trying to stay ahead of it," Carroll said Friday. "We have a bunch of guys on the roster right now. Fortunately, it's not too much of a burden yet. Charbonnet is coming back. He's fine. We're excited to see that happen. Kenny isn't going to be out for a long time. He's going to be ok."

As Carroll eluded to, the Seahawks have plenty of backs on the roster right now. In addition to the four previously-mentioned players, Seattle has Bryant Koback, SaRodorick Thompson Jr. and former Washington Husky Wayne Taulapapa, the latter two of which just signed recently. All of these players are in either their first or second years in the league.

However, it goes without saying that the Seahawks would prefer to have their top rushers on the field. If Carroll's words are anything to go by, it won't be long until those players are back in full swing.
