Seahawks Suggested as Potential Jeff Bezos Target for NFL Bid?

Could Amazon founder Jeff Bezos’ ‘yellow brick road’ lead to the  Emerald City by purchasing the Seattle Seahawks?

Is the man who brought you ‘everything from A to Z’ about to turn his attention to the Pacific Northwest? The possibility remains one to keep eyes on.

In the wake of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos’ decision to refrain from bidding on the Washington Commanders, it has been suggested through multiple reports that the man with a net worth of just over $125.3 billion may be seeking to purchase another NFL franchise. This time around, he would choose an organization with a bit more financial stability, as well as recent on-field success. As a result, the Seattle Seahawks may be the team in Bezos’ crosshairs, per a recent Washington Post report.

“Bezos knows that Seattle is sitting there,” per an unnamed source with knowledge of the NFL’s inner workings.

Bezos has long been connected to rumors of his purchasing the Seahawks. Still, the Post’s suggestion was taken one step further on Tuesday by veteran sportswriter Peter King, who indicated that the NFL is currently lobbying the billionaire mogul “quietly, but hard” to buy a franchise. Seattle would make a great deal of sense. Not only will general manager John Schneider and head coach Pete Carroll provide stability in the team’s offices, the Seahawks were in season-long contention for the NFC West title, finishing 9-8 with a playoff appearance. Seattle also boasts one of the NFL’s most-dedicated fanbases, along with a state-of-the-art facility in Lumen Field in which to host its home games.

However, if Bezos is indeed interested in the Seahawks, he may have to bide his time. Jody Allen, the sister of the late, longtime team owner Paul Allen, has shown a willingness to part with several of his assets. Yet, the Seahawks have yet to be placed on the market. As suggested by ProFootballTalk, Allen may be waiting to part with the team until after May 2024. Should the Seahawks be sold beforehand, 10 percent of the proceeds will go to the State of Washington as part of the deal to build Lumen Field.
