Seahawks QB Sean Mannion Retires, Joins Packers Coaching Staff

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Sean Mannion is moving into the next phase of his football career.

Sean Mannion may not be the most-familiar name to NFL fans, but after nine years in the league, the Seattle Seahawks practice squad quarterback is hanging up the cleats and moving into the next phase of his football career.

According to ESPN's Brady Henderson, who broke the news of Mannion's retirement, the journeyman quarterback will join the Green Bay Packers' coaching staff. Mannion's exact title isn't known, but he will work with quarterbacks and the passing game as a whole.

"I’ve heard from several people over the last few years who said Mannion was destined to eventually coach because of his intelligence and understanding of the game," Henderson wrote on X. "He’ll get that start in Green Bay after finishing last season on the Seahawks’ practice squad."

Mannion began his NFL career as a 2015 third-round pick by the then-St. Louis Rams, and spent four years with the club. After that, Mannion bounced around between the Minnesota Vikings and the Seahawks, spending three separate stints with each team. However, he never appeared in a regular season game for Seattle.

In college, Mannion was a four-year starter at Oregon State and put up record-setting numbers. In fact, he left the Beavers as the Pac-12's all-time leader in passing yards with 13,600, and the only player to pass him in the decade since then is former Washington State quarterback Luke Falk.

Mannion ends his NFL career having completed 60.9 percent of his passes for 571 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions in 14 appearances, including three starts.
