Seahawks Meet with LB Will Anderson Jr. at Draft-Visit Deadline
Holding the No. 5 overall pick, the Seattle Seahawks have made sure to make it known that they've met with the top quarterback prospects in the 2023 NFL Draft. But now, they're meeting with a guy who can make a claim as the best player in the draft class.
The Seahawks are hosting Alabama Crimson Tide linebacker Will Anderson Jr. for a draft visit on Wednesday, per reports from NFL Network. Wednesday marks the final time that teams can "time, test, visit, interview or conduct a physical examination with draft-eligible players at club facilities," per the report.
Despite all the quarterback hype, Seattle has been rumored recently to focus on defense with the No. 5 pick. And if Anderson Jr. is still there once the Seahawks are on the clock, you can bet they'll be drooling for a pick that seems impossible for them to pass up.
Anderson Jr. was nothing short of a beast while at Alabama. Getting 10 sacks and returning an interception for a touchdown this past season was certainly impressive, but it was somehow forgettable considering he led the country in sacks (17.5) and tackles for loss (31) in 2021. In three collegiate seasons, he totaled 34.5 sacks.
Keep in mind, this is all while playing in the best conference in college football where an elite Crimson Tide squad receives each team's best shot every week. Anderson Jr. was simply the best of the best.
While, based on draft projections, it could take a bit of a slide for him to land with Seattle at No. 5, there's still the possibility the top four teams quickly become quarterback-happy, giving the Seahawks an increased shot at landing arguably the best defensive player in the draft. Anderson Jr. certainly fills an area of need for Seattle, but he would also almost certainly be the best player available should he fall to No. 5.
