PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers are likely to have cornerback Cam Sutton near the top of their free agent list as the veteran is set to hit the market for the first time in his career.

The first time Sutton's contract expired, the Steelers inked the former third-round draft pick to an extension before the free agency market opened. This time, they could manage things differently.

Sutton's contract is set to expire at the end of this week, which will add to the Steelers' dead cap space for the offseason. He's already been linked to teams like the Minnesota Vikings and Detroit Lions, and it feels like there's going to be a decent bit of attention on the cornerback.

That being said, it's still expected Sutton will return to the Steelers. ESPN's Field Yates is one of many who predicts Pittsburgh retains their starting corner, with a nice pay bump for his next contract.

"Sutton continues to improve and is among the top cornerbacks set to hit the market," Yates wrote. "He’ll earn a decided raise from his $4.5 million average annual value deal that he is currently playing on, but Pittsburgh has the resources to ensure Sutton — who had three picks and 15 pass breakups — sticks around at a position where it needs plenty of depth."

Sutton's market value is three years, $22.9 million, according to Spotrac. While the Steelers have ways out of their cap troubles, they currently sit with a little over $1 million in available money.

To make a move by Friday would require some assistance. Even if they don't have a deal by then, though, it remains optimistic Sutton returns to the Steelers.
