Steelers WR Diontae Johnson Addresses 'Fire Canada' Chants

In this story:
PITTSBURGH -- Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Diontae Johnson spent four weeks on the sidelines during games, and during that time, he heard every bit of fans chanting 'Fire Canada' as the offense struggled.
Head coach Mike Tomlin addressed the chants about his offensive coordinator after Week 2, but it didn't stop Steelers fans from voicing their opinions. Since then, the push to remove Matt Canada has go into other sporting events, and may have even made its way to a local grocery store.
Johnson was asked about the chants during a recent appearance on the Arthur Moats Experience and said he's tried his best to keep his coordinator's head right while receiving the hate.
"When I see the OC, it’s like, ‘I can’t do nothing but just go over there and talk to him about certain stuff'," Johnson said. "I try to take his mind off of stuff like that, like, ‘Bro, I’m on your side at the end of the day. Don’t listen to whatever they’re saying out there. They’re gonna say what they’re gonna say, but we’re gonna make you look good'."
Johnson admitted that the offense has struggled and needs to find it's groove moving forward, but made it clear that Canada has a game plan and that's what the team is going to follow while he's here.
"People might not agree with his play calling, but you ain’t got no choice. He’s calling plays, he’s the boss on offense," he said. "We’ve got to do what he says and we ain’t got no choice. You don’t got to like them but you got to respect them. That’s how I go. I respect them, not like them too."
Pittsburgh's offense seemingly clicked last week against the Los Angeles Rams on their way to a 24-17 victory. If that continues, the chants will likely diminish. Until then, though, Johnson and the rest of the players will continue to support Canada.
