Steelers Insider Believes ILB Plan is Mark Robinson, NFL Draft

The Pittsburgh Steelers will supposedly go young at inside linebacker next season.

The Pittsburgh Steelers currently have one of their three inside linebackers who played a majority of the season on their roster. Outside of Myles Jack, Mark Robinson is the only other player with playing, and starting time in 2022, and could get even more in 2023.

Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's Gerry Dulac believes the Steelers' plan for the inside linebacker this offseason is to go young and see "ready Mark Robinson is."

Robinson, the team's 2022 seventh-round draft pick, played in four games this season, starting the final two. He accumulated nine tackles and virtually replaced Devin Bush and an injured Jack late in the season.

From what Robinson showed as a rookie, the Ole Miss alum is a bruiser, but certainly has work to do in pass coverage. That's an area the Steelers have struggled in with their inside linebackers in recent years, but their second approach to filling the position could solve that problem.

Dulac also said he believes the Steelers will look at the NFL Draft for inside linebacker help. With names like Noah Sewell and Drew Sanders highlighting the top of the draft, Pittsburgh has options for high-upside additions to their room.

The NFL Draft isn't extremely deep at inside linebacker, and the Steelers aren't spending too much time scouting the position down at the Senior Bowl. Still, with a need for depth and versatility, it's certainly an area you could believe is on their draft board - and maybe somewhat high up.

Many expect the Steelers to also re-sign Robert Spillane, but if the team is going to look at Robinson in 2023, Spillane, who played 100% of the defensive snaps the final four weeks of the season, could end up elsewhere in free agency.
