Steelers GM Omar Khan Addresses Justin Fields Rumors

The Pittsburgh Steelers are exploring all their options when it comes to quarterback upgrades, including in the trade market.

INDIANAPOLIS -- The Pittsburgh Steelers entered this offseason desperate to find a solution to their quarterback woes. With just one quarterback under contract for the 2024 season at this point, they have some work to do and general manager Omar Khan knows

Plenty of names the Steelers could consider have been floated by fans and media and Kahn was asked directly about one of them - Justin Fields, who could be a trade candidate for the Chicago Bears, owners of the No. 1 overall pick in a draft that is top heavy with quarterback prospects.

“I’m not going to go into details about the conversations we’ve had," Khan said about speculation that they Steelers would pursue a trade for Fields. "But as I mentioned earlier, I can tell you that I have an obligation to look at every avenue to make us a better football team.”

Khan said every avenue for adding to the quarterback room - whether it be through the Draft, free agency or the trade market - its on the table for the Steelers.

Whether the Bears will trade Fields and select Caleb Williams (or one of the other top passers in this draft) or deal the No. 1 overall pick for a bigger package to build around Fields, who they traded up to take during the 2021 Draft. But the rest of the league is bracing for Chicago to make potentially the biggest move of the offseason.

Khan added that he is eager to see what Kenny Pickett, the Steelers' 2022 first-round pick who was benched late last season following an ankle injury for Mason Rudolph, can do with some new pieces in place on the offensive coaching staff. He expects the addition of Arthur Smith as offensive coordinator and Tom Arth as quarterbacks coach to be instrumental to Pickett's development during a critical year.

"We’re excited about Kenny and excited about the impact that Arthur Smith is going to have on the offense, on Kenny and Tom Arth as well," Kahn said. "So we’re excited about the process.”
