Steelers CB Patrick Peterson Calls Out Titans QB Ryan Tannehill

The Pittsburgh Steelers veteran wasn't a fan of Ryan Tannehill's leadership.

PITTSBURGH -- Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Patrick Peterson has preached about how much pride he takes in preparing rookies Joey Porter Jr. and Cory Trice to succeed during and after his time in the NFL is over. And looking back on a different situation in the AFC last season, he isn't a fan of how another veteran handled that same pressure.

During an episode of the All Things Covered Podcast, Peterson spoke on the Ryan Tannehill, Malik Willis situation from last season. Before the year started, Tannehill made it known he wasn't fully invested in mentoring Willis, and instead was concentrating on keeping his starting job over the third-round rookie.

Peterson wasn't a fan of the comments.

"I don’t know what it was, not mentor, not give info, to the younger QB," Peterson said. "Man, like we’ve got so much information that these guys haven’t seen. Why would we wanna keep that from them? Why would we wanna hinder their career on maybe something that we can give them? Not to backtrack, that kind of rubbed me the wrong way."

Tannehill eventually opened up about the situation and said he's happy to be a good teammate to Willis, no matter how the situation shook out.

"We're going to continue to push each other, to learn from each other in the QB room, encourage each other as this thing goes forward," Tannehill said. "We're all here for one goal. My primary focus is to win football games as everyone in this building."

Willis ended up starting three games for the Titans as a rookie, going 1-2 before being benched for former Steeler Josh Dobbs. He threw for 276 yards and three interceptions. Now, reports claim he could be the odd man out in just his second season after the Titans used a second-round pick on Will Levis this offseason.
