Steelers Rookies Joey Porter Jr., Cory Trice Already Clicking

The Pittsburgh Steelers new corners have formed an early bond.

PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers have two rookie cornerbacks with plenty of potential ahead of them in their NFL careers. The coaches, fans and front office hope that potential is reached in black and gold, and the two are already starting to utilize each other to get there.

Joey Porter Jr. and Cory Trice don't have the same expectations as rookies. Porter is already taking first-team reps alongside Levi Wallace and Patrick Peterson, while Trice is developing with the backups.

That hasn't stopped them from clicking.

"That's my guy. That's little bro. He's a couple months older than me, but that's little bro," Porter laughed. "... That's my dog, definitely."

They're focused on their own adaptation to the NFL, but they're feeding off each other as well. Trice has made more headlines about his on-field play through the first part of OTAs, but that's only driving Porter to match it, which he should as he continues to adjust.

"When he does something that's good on the field, it motivates me to want to up him and do something. And it's vice versa," Porter told All Steelers. "It's never bad blood. It's good competition because we both know it's one goal at the end of the day, and that's to get better."

The rookies didn't know each other before Pittsburgh. They also didn't imagine they'd be walking into a cornerback room with another rookie standing over 6'2, who seems to tower over everyone else on the field.

"Coaches like what they like, so if you can get a two for one, why not," Trice said.

The Steelers have two rookie cornerbacks they view as the future. They may not play the same roles this season, but the outlook for both is to be part of the future. A major part. And they're utilizing that rookie teammate to help get there.

"We already knew what it was when we came into the building," Porter said. "We've got to get each other better, and that's what we're trying to do every day."
