In this story:

PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Steelers open Week 15 in preparation for the Indianapolis Colts with nine players missing practice time.

The team’s initial injury report included ten names, four of whom did not practice, five who were limited, and one who returned to the field.

Quarterback Kenny Pickett (ankle), running back Najee Harris (knee), inside linebacker Elandon Roberts (groin), and guard Isaac Seumalo (shoulder) were held out to start the week. Safety Damontae Kazee (ankle), linebackers T.J. Watt (concussion) and Alex Highsmith (concussion), and defensive tackles Cam Heyward (groin) and Keeanu Benton (oblique) were limited.

Harris missed both days of practice last week because of his knee injury but was able to play in the game. Head coach Mike Tomlin said he expects Harris to return to practice this week and expressed optimism that he’ll be ready to go against the Colts.

Roberts is dealing with a groin injury he suffered in Week 13 against the Cardinals. He did play despite a short week against the Patriots, but was limited in snaps. The Steelers will look for him to be available again this week, and keeping him off the field could be a precautionary measure as he nurses the injury.

Seumalo was also dealing with his shoulder injury last week but was able to play. He holds the same expectations that missing practice is likely for his health on game day.

Both Highsmith and Watt suffered concussions against the Patriots in Week 14. They’ll need to be cleared by an independent neurologist before the game in order to play.

Both Benton and Heyward have missed practice time because of their injuries but have not missed games - for Heyward, once he returned from surgery.

Kazee will be a name to watch throughout the week to see how his progression goes. Without him, the Steelers would turn to Trenton Thompson alongside Minkah Fitzpatrick.
