Steelers WR George Pickens Named in Georgia Football Case

PITTSBURGH— Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver George Pickens is reportedly involved in a long history of misconduct coming out of the University of Georgia football team. According to a story from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Pickens was involved in a sexual assault case during the 2021 season.
The report’s author, Alan Judd, tells the stories of cases of several misconduct concerns from the team, including one of Adam Anderson - Pickens’ former teammates. The former Bulldogs’ linebacker is accused of rape from an event that occurred on October 28, 2021, involving a woman who used to work for the football program.
According to the report, a woman was drinking at an apartment complex that Anderson also lived in. After falling asleep on a couch following a night of drinking, she woke up in Anderson’s bed as he “penetrated her without consent.”
The woman went to the police, who then interviewed Anderson’s teammate, Pickens, who was accused of implicating Anderson.
“Friends of the accuser had told the police Pickens had implicated Anderson. But with his parents and Gantt in the room, according to court records, Pickens declined to answer questions,” Judd writes.
Judd claims Pickens did not reply when requested for an interview on the matter. Outside of the friends' accusation, there is no other reported involvement from Pickens.
Anderson eventually turned himself in after an arrest warrant was issued, pleading not guilty to the charge. Over 100 people from his hometown of Rome, Georgia, showed up to support him as he requested to be released on bond. A number of teammates also took the stand to advocate for his bond.
Anderson was eventually suspended by the football team and has not played a game since. He is also facing a second rape charge with a court date set for July. He's pleaded not guilty to that charge as well.
