Texans 3 Top NFL Draft Candidates With No. 2 Pick

The Houston Texans might have their choice of QBs in this NFL Draft.

With April’s 2023 NFL Draft on the horizon, mock drafts continue to fill websites across the nation.

Many of those mock drafts have the Houston Texans, slated to pick No. 2, selecting a quarterback with that selection.

As DeMeco Ryans embarks upon his first season at the helm of the program, only time will tell if this team is finally turning the page - and maybe a QB speeds that process.

Let’s take a quick look at a few of the most talked-about candidates to be selected by the Texans in April, with a pair of quarterbacks leading the charge.

Descriptions are from the SI player's scouting report. Click their name to read their full report.

QB Bryce Young, Alabama

“A smart-accurate passer who doesn’t force throws and rarely makes mistakes. Lacks prototype size but sees the field very well, demonstrates natural feel in the pocket and can push the ball downfield with a simple flick of the wrist.”

Young is a prime example of a potential star quarterback that could help turn the Texans from cellar to contender.

The Alabama product passed for 3,328 yards with 32 touchdowns and just five interceptions in 2022.

For a Houston team used to sometimes throwing just as many picks as touchdowns, Young would likely be a welcome “face  of the franchise” add.

He has also been predominantly the top choice in most mock draft scenarios for Houston.

QB C.J. Stroud, Ohio State

“Known as the first one in, last one out, Stroud possesses all the intangibles that NFL decision-makers seek from a franchise quarterback—head coach Ryan Day has praised his work ethic and professional approach to the game on a daily basis.”

Young Vs. Stroud? It could come to that. And … This past season for Ohio State, Stroud passed for 3,688 yards with 41 touchdowns and a mere six interceptions.

But …

EDGE Will Anderson Jr., Alabama

“Blessed with rare athleticism, a lightning quick first step and violent hands, the Bulldogs defensive tackle makes a living in the opponents' backfield.”

In the past, Houston has tended to focus on defense when aiming to turn things around, and Anderson is one of the most talented pass-rushers to enter the draft in recent memory.

Could Anderson Jr. be the solution to the Texans' defensive woes?

The Alabama star garnered 51 total tackles in 2022 (24 solo) with 10 sacks and an interception.

For Ryans and the Houston coaching staff, the top goal is to bring in a difference-maker.

Who? We will find out on April 27 in Kansas City.
