'I'm A C.J. Stroud Guy!' Texans Ex Jonathan Wells Weighs In On Houston QB Draft

The Houston Texans have a big decision to make.

With the NFL Draft drawing closer, the question of which rookie quarterback Houston plans to bring in continues to spark conversations, and this time, it has drawn the interest of a former Ohio State Buckeye turned Texan, Jonathan Wells.

"I'm a C.J. Stroud guy," Wells said. "I love his size. ... I've watched every game that he's played, and I just love him as a person as well. He's a great kid, and I think he'd be great for the organization."

Wells and Stroud share a similar background, both being Buckeye alum, and to Wells' point, Stroud's size does hold up, as the two-year starter has a significant advantage over Bryce Young in that category.

Stroud stands 6-3 and weighs in at 214, matching up well with two of the other projected first-round quarterbacks in Anthony Richardson and Will Levis, but what the Ohio State product has over the other two was stronger on-field performances last season.

The 21-year old threw for more than 3,600 yards and tallied a total of 41 touchdowns — enough for second among all NCAA quarterbacks and more than both Richardson and Levis combined.

Houston would have a strong case to make should it decide to go with Stroud over Young, though nothing is for certain regarding the Texans' draft board just yet.

Throughout his four seasons from 2002-2005 with the Texans, Wells tallied close to 1,500 all-purpose yards and 12 touchdowns, making himself at home in Houston.

But despite missing the Texans' current coach DeMeco Ryans by one season, he is excited to see Ryans and company take charge of the rebuilding squad, and as far as he's concerned, he is "all for" whoever the Texans select to stand under center next season.

"Whoever they end up going with, I'm going to be right there to support those young kids," Wells said. "All we want to do is get this organization turned around in the right direction, and whoever that may be, I'm all for it."

The first-round of the NFL Draft begins April 27, in Kansas City.
