With the conclusion NFL Draft, the Houston Texans have now set their sights on training camp, and continuing to build a winning roster.

For the front office, that means testing the free agency market and continuing to scout potential prospects. For coach DeMeco Ryans and the coaching staff, that means shifting focus to training and 53-man roster making.

But for second-year running back Dameon Pierce, that means getting ready to build upon an impressive rookie season in Houston.

Last year, Pierce tallied 939 yards and four touchdowns on 220 carries. An ankle injury ended the running back’s season after 13 games, but spending time on the sidelines only made the rookie more excited to get back on the field for year two.

"This time last year, I was getting ready to be drafted," Pierce said at a recent Boys and Girls club event in Houston. "I was in a completely different mindset, not really sure what the future [would] hold."

"This time around, [I'm] on a good team and we've got pieces that we're building around. I love the energy. I just have to make sure that I'm position to do whatever coach [DeMeco] asks. ...  I'm just ready to work."

Houston had arguably the most productive draft in the league, adding its quarterback of the future in C.J. Stroud and a top-defensive edge rusher in Will Anderson Jr.

But apart from their two new stars, the Texans also brought in Notre Dame’s Jarrett Patterson — likely to the pleasure of both Stroud and Pierce.

Patterson will hope to add depth on the offensive line, and in turn, give a boost to a Texans passing game that struggled last mightily with protection last season.

But either way, the Texans have a slew of offensive talent coming in, and the reigning Angry Run of the Year winner Pierce will be helping to lead the charge on the rushing front.
