Tennessee Titans Add a Wide Receiver in Latest Mock Draft from NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah
NASHVILLE — The Tennessee Titans wide receiver position is in a dire situation. Daniel Jeremiah from the NFL Network has the Titans finally addressing the position with their first pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. Jeremiah pairs the Titans with Ohio State pass catcher Jaxon Smith-Njigba.
Smith-Njigba will be a sight for the sore eyes of Titans’ fans. The group the Titans have at wide receiver currently is enough to send any fan into panic mode. Yes, second-year player Treylon Burks shows promise, but he did only play 11 games last year. Second-year player Kyle Philips showed some flashes as a slot man and a punt returner, but he only played in four games. Hard to count on two young players to buoy your entire unit.
The Titans also brought back Nick Westbrook-Ikhine, but the former undrafted free agent got just above a veteran minimum contract, so that tells you how valued his skillset is around the league. Outside of those three names, the Titans have nothing, but practice squad talent. As the free agent pool at receiver thins, the ice the Titans stand on gets thinner too.
At this point, the Titans have put themselves in a position where they have no choice but to draft a receiver at selection 11. That is not where you want to be when this year’s class at receiver is not considered to be on par with recent classes, talent-wise. However, Smith-Njigba would pair nicely with Burks. Burks is a big, physical contested catch winner and Smith-Njigba is a smooth route runner with good hands that can work out of the slot. Something Jeremiah points out in his reasoning for the pick.
Jeremiah wrote, “The Titans need to add some playmakers on the offense. Smith-Njigba is a pure route runner who’s ready to make an immediate impact.”
The Titans need an immediate impact player desperately at receiver based on the current group so Jeremiah is spot on there. However, offensive tackle Paris Johnson Jr. was still on the board so it would be tough to see the Titans pass on an offensive linemen to reach on a wide receiver with their first pick.
