On Tuesday the Carolina Panthers reportedly gave quarterback Cam Newton permission to seek a trade. Cam has played his entire career, nine seasons, in Carolina since being drafted first overall. He won the NFL’s MVP award in 2015 and led the team to a Super Bowl that same season. With three Pro Bowl appearances and the franchise record for most passing yards, Newton would leave behind a strong legacy in Carolina. General manager Marty Hurney had this to say in regards to Newton, "One of the distinct pleasures of my career was selecting Cam with the first pick in the 2011 draft. Every year difficult decisions are made and they are never easy. We have been working with Cam and his agent to find the best fit for him moving forward and he will always be a Carolina Panther in our hearts." Once the news was made public, Newton responded to the Panthers' IG account saying, "Stop with the word play. I never asked for a trade… I love the panthers to death and always will love you guys… You forced me into this.”
