Josh Dobbs Makes NFL History in Vikings' SNF Loss vs. Broncos

No player in NFL history had ever thrown a touchdown and run for a touchdown in each of their first three games with a team — until Josh Dobbs did it.

Dobbs had a passing touchdown in the second quarter of the Vikings' 21-20 loss to the Broncos on Sunday Night Football. He had a rushing touchdown in the third quarter. It was the third consecutive week he's had at least one of both, with a total of four passing TDs and three rushing scores in the first three games of his Minnesota career.

Prior to Sunday, there had only been one three-game streak like that in Vikings history. Daunte Culpepper did it from Week 13 to Week 15 of the 2002 season.

Dobbs is now on a four-game streak of outings with at least one passing TD and at least one rushing TD, as he did it in his last start with the Cardinals before getting traded. The NFL record in the Super Bowl era is five games, held by Justin Fields (2022), Kyler Murray (2020), and Michael Vick (2010).

There was some magic in Dobbs' two touchdowns and several other plays, but the Vikings ultimately lost for the first time since acquiring him. Dobbs coughed up an early fumble (which probably should've been negated by a penalty) and threw his first interception with the Vikings, giving him four turnovers in three games. After starting 11 of 12, he completed 9 of his final 20 passes.

Dobbs can tie the all-time record if he throws and runs for a TD next Monday night against Fields and the Bears.
