Vikings rookie wide receiver Jordan Addison is in the concussion protocol after experiencing light symptoms stemming from a recent practice, head coach Kevin O'Connell said on Wednesday. He's not expected to miss much time; Addison could return as soon as Monday.

"Part of a two-minute drill the other day, just kind of making a catch, going to the ground, just had some very, very light symptoms," O'Connell said. "We deemed it worthy to be smart with him. He's currently in the protocol, working his way already through that right now, and expecting to have him as early as potentially Monday."

Addison didn't participate in the Vikings' first joint practice with the Titans and will sit out again on Thursday. He'll also miss the home preseason game against Tennessee on Saturday. The Vikings are hoping he'll be cleared to go in next week's two joint practices with the Cardinals.

"It's more out of an ultra nature of just being aware that if he had any symptoms whatsoever, no reason to risk anything," O'Connell added. "Give him the proper time to work his way through that protocol and he'll be back ASAP when the doctors clear him."

Addison has been one of the standout players in this year's training camp for the Vikings. The first-round pick out of USC has lived up to the billing, working his way up to a first-team role when the offense is in three-receiver sets. He played well in his preseason debut last Thursday, making a highlight-reel catch on the sidelines that was incorrectly ruled out of bounds.

It doesn't sound like there's any reason to anticipate his status being in danger for the Vikings' regular season opener against the Buccaneers on September 10th.
