The Vikings have officially announced the signing of quarterback Jordan Ta'amu, which was first reported by the XFL last week.

The reigning XFL offensive player of the year with the D.C. Defenders, Ta'amu gives the Vikings another arm for the final week of training camp. He'll get some reps during this week's three practices (two of which are joint sessions with the Cardinals) and could potentially play in Saturday's preseason finale. Head coach Kevin O'Connell said that rookie QB Jaren Hall is going to get a ton of work this week, so adding Ta'amu could allow the Vikings to rest Nick Mullens on Saturday.

Ta'amu, 25, is a Hawaii native who starred at Ole Miss back in 2017 and '18. The Vikings are now the sixth different NFL team he has spent time with since then. Ta'amu has been an elite spring league player; he led the USFL in passing yards and passing touchdowns in 2022 with the Tampa Bay Bandits, then dominated in the XFL this year. He joins former Defenders teammates Lucky Jackson and Abram Smith in Minnesota.

The Vikings' corresponding roster move was waiving outside linebacker Curtis Weaver. A 2020 fifth-round pick, Weaver was a dominant edge rusher at Boise State but has struggled to make an impact at the next level. He's had stints with the Dolphins and Browns, appearing in just one regular season game. The Vikings signed Weaver to a futures deal in January.
