Vikings WR Jordan Addison is 7th in Offensive Rookie of the Year Odds

In this story:
Vikings wide receiver Jordan Addison, the 23rd overall pick in this year's NFL draft, is currently seventh in betting odds to be the 2023 Offensive Rookie of the Year.
Addison is +1600 to win the award at both DraftKings Sportsbook and BetMGM. That's an implied percentage chance of just under six percent.
Here are the six players ahead of Addison and their odds at DK:
- Falcons RB Bijan Robinson: +300
- Panthers QB Bryce Young: +475
- Seahawks WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba: +650
- Texans QB C.J. Stroud: +700
- Lions RB Jahmyr Gibbs: +850
- Colts QB Anthony Richardson: +1200
Ravens WR Zay Flowers is eighth, behind Addison, at +1800. Chargers WR Quentin Johnston is one of three players tied for ninth at +2000.
It's not surprising to see Robinson atop the list, given the landing spot for the 8th overall pick. The Texas product is viewed as one of the best running back prospects to come out of college in the last decade, and he ended up in an Atlanta offense that is all about running the ball.
It's also not surprising to see all three of the quarterbacks taken in the top four picks this year crack the top six in these odds. Since 2010, six QBs have won the award compared to four running backs and three wide receivers.
Notably, each of the last two winners — Ja'Marr Chase and Garrett Wilson — are wide receivers. Justin Jefferson could've easily won it in 2020 as well, losing out to Justin Herbert. Addison is second behind Smith-Njigba here among the four receivers drafted with consecutive picks from 20th-23rd overall this year.
In my opinion, it's a bit strange that Smith-Njigba is +650 and Addison is +1600. The Vikings were a more pass-heavy team than the Seahawks last season, and Addison will be Minnesota's WR2 behind Jefferson while Smith-Njigba will likely be Seattle's WR3 behind DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett.
There's a case to be made that Addison is a decent longshot bet, given his expected role in the Vikings' offense. That's the case made by PFF's Trevor Sikkema in a recent article. He ranked Addison as his third-favorite OROY bet behind Young and Robinson.
The past two Offensive Rookie of the Year winners have been wide receivers: Garrett Wilson and Ja’Marr Chase. Wilson recorded more than 1,110 receiving yards and four receiving touchdowns on 83 catches. Chase recorded more than 1,400 yards with 11 receiving touchdowns on 81 catches. Addison getting that kind of volume would be asking a lot, but he is poised to take over the WR2 position in Minnesota, which bodes well for him being a strong candidate for the award. Addison was the Biletnikoff Award winner in 2021, so he’s no stranger to standout stats. Long-time Vikings receiver Adam Thielen saw 107 targets last season, and a good chunk of that, if not all of it, will go to Addison this upcoming season.
