Nearly 40,000 fans spent New Year's Day with the Bruins and Flyers. On a flawless New Year's Day, the Bruins provided their own unique finish to Fenway Park's history of memorable endings. Marco Sturm capped a furious comeback with an overtime goal and goalie Tim Thomas saved his best for the end as Boston beat the Philadelphia Flyers 2-1 in the 3rd annual Winter Classic, the first NHL game at the home of the Boston Red Sox.
The Dropkick Murphys, a Boston punk band, performed live in center field before the game, playing "Shipping Up To Boston," a song usually heard at Fenway when Red Sox closer Jonathan Papelbon enters a game.
Honorary captains Bobby Clarke (left) and Bobby Orr met at center ice for the ceremonial drop of the puck.

The view from atop the Green Monster was obviously wicked awesome.
Danny Syvret gave the Flyers a 1-0 lead at 4:42 of the second period with the first goal of his career.
The Bruins finally broke through at the 17:42 mark of the third period when former Flyer Mark Recchi tipped a Derek Morris shot past Michael Leighton for a power-play goal.
Reigning Vezina Trophy winner Tim Thomas made several clutch saves in the third period and was later selected to the U.S. Olympic Hockey Team in a postgame ceremony.
Marco Sturm scored the walk-off goal at 1:57 into overtime. "The experience is once-in-a-lifetime," he said. "Bruins, Flyers, 40,000 fans on a perfect day, you couldn't ask for anything better for the game of hockey."
When Marco Sturm scored the game-winner in overtime, the Fenway Faithful exploded, as did the fireworks atop the press box.
