Penguins, Flyers honor Ottawa attack victim with 'O Canada' rendition

The Philadelphia Flyers and Pittsburgh Penguins paid tribute to the Ottawa shooting victim with a moving rendition of O Canada before Wednesday night's game in Pittsburgh.

Hockey is deeply rooted in Canada’s history, but the Canadian national anthem is not traditionally played before non-playoff games between American teams. In the wake of Wednesday's tragic shooting incident in Ottawa, however, "O Canada" was performed by Jeff Jimerson before the Penguins took on the Flyers at the Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh. The Canadian flag was projected onto the ice as Jimerson motioned for the crowd to sing along and pay tribute to the soldier who was killed in the attack. What resulted was a touching moment that showed support for not only for the Canadian players present but for Canada as a whole. Wednesday night's game in Ottawa against the Maple Leafs was postponed and will be played at a later date that is to be announced.
