Oilers defenseman Andrew Ference one of Edmonton Journal's 'Power 30'

Over the years Oilers captain Andrew Ference has earned plenty of honors, and now he has another to add to his resume.

The Edmonton Journal has named the 35-year-old defenseman to its Power 30, a list of "who's who in Edmonton." Ference ranks 27th, despite having only joined the Oilers as a free agent in 2013. As part of his move from Boston, Ference brought outdoor fitness movement November Project to Edmonton, as well as worked with mayor Don Iveson on the city's Go Bagless campaign. He also became the first pro Edmonton athlete to march in a pride parade, taking part in the Edmonton version.

The former Stanley Cup winner has a long history of community involvement: While playing for the Bruins, he helped the NHLPA devise an environmental responsibility program in which players can buy carbon credits to offset the impact of their air travel.

A former King Clancy Memorial Trophy winner for humanitarian and leadership contributions, Ference's full list of good deeds can be found here on the Edmonton Journal's Power 30 index, which also features Oilers owner Daryl Katz at No. 1.
