Team USA At The Penn Relays

On Saturday, April 28, several members of the Team USA track and field team descended on the Penn Relays at the University of Pennsylvania campus to provide a sneak preview of what the world can expect at the London Games. Here, avid supporters unfurl a gigantic American flag to show their love for the U.S. Olympic hopefuls.

Texas native Ivory Williams, who narrowly missed qualifying for the 2008 Games, collects his thoughts before the men's 4x100m relay. Williams, and a squad featuring Shawn Crawford, Trell Kimmons and Ryan Bailey finished second in the relay behind another American squad with a time of 38.47.

Felix, a two-time medalist in Beijing, ran a pair of relays on Saturday and won both. Felix, along with Tianna Madison, Bianca Knight and Carmelita Jeter, took the 4x100m relay with a time of 42.19, this year's world record. In the 4x400 relay, Felix, Francena McCorory, Natasha Hastings and Sanya Richards-Ross bested the field with a time of 3:21.18.

Dix leaves the field behind on the final leg of the men's 4x100 relay, finishing with a time 38.40. "This is definitely what they may see in London," Dix, who finished with a pair of bronze medals in 2008, said. "I can't wait to get there."

Showing no ill effects from his 21-month drug ban, Merritt anchors the men's 4x400 relay, finishing the final leg in 44.8 to help Team USA to victory.

Reigning 100-meter world champion Carmelita Jeter outpaces the field down the stretch during the women's world-record victory in the 4x100 relay. "The U.S. is definitely ready for London," Jeter said. "We're prepared. Now all we have to do is stay healthy."

Neville and Team USA Blue upset Team USA Red on the final lap when Leo Manzano overtook veteran Bernard Lagat. "Any time you get a guy like Bernard," Manzano said, "there is a little bit of satisfaction."

2008 gold medalist Richards-Ross anchors the women's 4x400m relay team, finishing the final leg in 49.47 to give Team USA an easy win. "It was exciting for us to cross the line and kind of finish it off for Team USA," Richards-Ross said. "Usually the Jamaicans give us some trouble in one of the relays."

Tinsley (bottom) takes the handoff from Russell Brown during the men's distance medley relay. Despite strong runs from both Tinsley and Brown, Team USA Red was upset on the final lap by its counterpart, Team USA Blue.
