England striker Daniel Sturridge will not play against Switzerland

England striker Daniel Sturridge will miss Monday's Euro 2016 qualifying match against Switzerland after he injured his thigh in training on Friday, the team announced.

With Sturridge out of the lineup, Rickie Lambert or Danny Welbeck is expected to fill in at striker.

Sturridge, 25, has appeared 16 times for the England national team, scoring 5 goals. He started all three matches for England at this summer's FIFA World Cup, scoring one goal.

In Premier League play, Sturridge has scored one goal in three matches for Liverpool this season.

England defeated Norway 1-0 in a friendly on Wednesday.
