In an interview with the BBC on Thursday, Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo said he believes he is a better player than Barcelona forward Lionel Messi.

“Maybe in your opinion Messi is better than me, but in my mind I am better than him,” Ronaldo said. “So it’s simple.”

Ronaldo, who joined Real Madrid in 2009, is the club’s all-time leading scorer with 326 goals in 314 matches. Messi, a forward for Barcelona and Argentina, is a four-time world player of the year. The 28-year-old has 418 goals in 492 matches.

“In my mind, I’m always the best,” Ronaldo said. “I don’t care what people think, what they say. In my mind, not just this year but always, I’m always the best.”

In 760 career appearances, Ronaldo, a three-time world player of the year, has 504 goals.

Ronaldo, 30, is signed with Madrid through 2018.
