Stefan Frei’s blunder led to an easy Real Salt Lake goal.
Seattle Sounders goalkeeper Stefan Frei could have had his sixth clean sheet of the season on Sunday, if not for a brutal blunder in the second half.
With the Sounders up 2–0 on Real Salt Lake in the 62nd minute, Frei attempted to roll the ball out to one of his defenders. RSL’s Yura Movsisyan was able to get his foot on the ball, though, creating a scoring opportunity.
Frei was nearly able to recover but Movsisyan found Joao Plata, who was able to finish.
The goal was the only one Frei allowed, however, as Seattle hung on to win 2–1. Even after the win, the Sounders sit five points behind the sixth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference.
