Falcons Head Coach Returns To Atlanta After Hospitalization

Tuesday December 13th, 2011

Falcons head coach Mike Smith returned home to Atlanta after being taken to the hospital Sunday in North Carolina, ESPN.com reports.

Smith, 52, became ill and did not fly with the Falcons after the 31-23 road win against the Carolina Panthers.

The team says the hospital visit was for a “non-emergency matter.” The coach’s condition was not considered serious. He returned to Atlanta at around 3:30 a.m. via owner Arthur Blank’s private jet. Smith is set to join the team Monday afternoon at the Falcons’ training complex and will address the media after practice. The Falcons are scheduled to host the Jacksonville Jaguars Thursday night.
