Del Rio replaces Dennis Allen, who left the Broncos to become the head coach of the Oakland Raiders. He's the fifth defensive coordinator in Denver in five years. Del Rio and Broncos head coach John Fox have worked together before, as DC and head coach for the 2002 Carolina Panthers. Del Rio spent eight seasons and part of a ninth as head coach in Jacksonville, compiling a career record of 68-71. He was fired after a 3-8 start to the Jaguars' 2011 season.
