Metzelaars spent the last eight seasons as an assistant for the Indianapolis Colts, but was let go after the 2011-2012 season.

“I think in anything it’s about teaching techniques, fundamentals, doing  things correctly every single time and doing them well,” Metzelaars told the team’s web site. “That gives you a chance to compete against the people you play against in this league and gives you a chance to win. That’s my whole focus.”

Metzelaars played on all four of the Bills’ AFC Championship teams and is their all-time leader among tight ends in catches, receiving yards and touchdowns.
