Polian is best known for his work as the lead executive for the Indianapolis Colts beginning in 1999. His reign began with the drafting and signing of Peyton Manning with the No. 1 overall pick in the 1999 NFL draft, it ended this offseason when Colts’ owner Jim Irsay decided the team needed a complete front-office reshuffle after a 2-14 season.

Polian also served as the general manager of the Buffalo Bills from 1986-1993, and of the Carolina Panthers from 1994-1997.
