49ers Newcomer Brandon Jacobs Wants The Ball In Goal-Line Situations

Just hours after officially signing with the San Francisco 49ers, newcomer Brandon Jacobs has already initiated a running-back controversy. In yesterday's conference call with the Bay Area media, Jacobs says he wants the ball over teammate Frank Gore in goal-line situations.

"Well, being 25 or 35 pounds heavier than Frank, I'd hope I'll be the one to get it," Jacobs said, according to Cam Inman of the San Jose Mercury News.

"But Frank has done great in that area the last seven years," Jacobs added. "We came into the league the same year. He's done great. He has no issue getting in. It's whatever is best for the team."

Jacobs, the New York Giants' fourth-round pick in the 2005 draft, has amassed 4,849 rushing yards and 56 touchdowns in his seven-year NFL career. Gore, a third-rounder in '05, has 7,625 yards and 43 TDs.
