Report: Jacque Vaughn gains traction for Orlando Magic head coach vacancy

With Orlando Magic general manager Rob Hennigan putting the Dwight Howard trade talks on the back burner while team officials look for a new coach, it appears that Spurs assistant Jacque Vaughn has become the leading candidate to replace Stan Van Gundy, according to a tweet Friday morning from Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports.

Vaughn, currently an assistant under San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich, last played in the NBA in 2009 as a member of the Spurs.

The other candidates for the job are Brian Shaw, former Lakers assistant coach to Phil Jackson, and Mike Malone, currently an assistant coach for the Golden State Warriors.

Former Detroit Piston Lindsey Hunter, now a player development specialist with the Phoenix Suns, and Jeff Hornacek, the former Jazz guard who is now an assistant with the team, have also reportedly been in talks with the Magic. Quinn Snyder, the Lakers assistant coach, was in the running to fill the vacancy but has since taken a job as an assistant coach for CSKA Moscow.
