Colorado Rockies v Arizona Diamondbacks

The Colorado Rockies have placed veteran first baseman Jason Giambi on the disabled list because of a viral infection, according to Troy E. Renck of The Denver Post:

"It's good news that they found something," Giambi said. "I thought it was just Father Time catching up with me."

The move also comes as the Rockies make room for pitcher Edwar Cabrera, who will start on the mound Tuesday night in a game against the Arizona Diamondbacks. He will fill in for Drew Pomeranz, who is expected back over the weekend against the Cincinnati Reds.

Giambi, 41, was hitting .241 on the season.  His placement on the 15-day disabled list makes it highly unlikely for him to be traded. The MLB deadline for all trades is July 31.
