Concession stadium workers sue Yankees over tips

Concession workers who work at Yankees Stadium are suing the team claiming the Yankees stiffed them out of between $500,000 and $1 million in gratuities, reports the New York Post.

The lawsuit was filed by 32 current and former waiters in the Stadium’s exclusive box seats. New York Yankees Partnership and Legends Hospitality LLC operates the concessions and the lawsuit says they generate $25 million a year.

“The Yankees are making so much money,” Brian Schaffer, a lawyer for the concession workers said. “Why would they do this to hardworking kids? It’s corporate greed at it’s worst. The money that we’re talking about is peanuts to the Yankees.”

For two years, from 2009-2011, the menu at the stadium informed customers that a “service charge” of 20 percent would be added to the bill and that “additional gratuity is at your discretion.”
