Nebraska athletic director Tom Osborne announced his retirement during a press conference Wednesday, reports ESPN.com.

Osborne's retirement is effective on Jan. 1, 2013.

Cornnation.com reports that Osborne's expected replacement is Dr. Jamie Williams, who returned to the Nebraska Athletic Department this year after spending six years as the athletic director at Academy of Art University in San Francisco. Williams played for Osborne and spent 12 seasons in the NFL.
