The Jacksonville Jaguars traded wide receiver Mike Thomas to the Detroit Lions for an undisclosed draft pick, according to a source briefed on the deal in a report by Ian Rapoport of

The Lions were looking to add depth at receiver after Nate Burleson broke his right leg against the Bears. Burleson is expected to miss up to eight months after surgery. Burleson's absence leaves the Lions with a struggling Calvin Johnson, Titus Young and rookie Ryan Broyles. The Jaguars had signed Thomas to a five-year, $19 million deal in October 2011, but he was one of several Jacksonville receivers who have received criticism for inconsistent play and too many drops. Thomas was made more expendable by his play and off-season deals for receivers including the drafting of Justin Blackmon and the signing of free-agent Laurent Robinson.
