Lionel Messi agrees on new FC Barcelona deal

Lionel Messi has agreed with FC Barcelona on a new contract that will keep him at the club through 2018, according to the club.

Barcelona has also come to terms with Xavi and Carles Puyol through 2016.

Messi, 25, has produced a record-breaking year including 90 goals, surpassing Gerd Muller's 40-year-old record of 85.

Messi is a finalist for a fourth consecutive FIFA Ballon d'Or, along with Cristiano Ronaldo and Andres Iniesta.

Puyol,who debuted with the club in 1999, has made over 560 appearances and captained the club to three Champions League, five La Liga and two Copa del Rey titles.
