Kobe Bryant sprains ankle in Lakers loss, out indefinitely

Los Angeles Lakers guard Kobe Bryant severely sprained his left ankle in the last minute of the team's 96-92 loss to the Atlanta Hawks Wednesday night and the team says he is out indefinitely.

Bryant took X-rays after the game and the results turned up negative. The injury happened when Bryant took a jumper and came down on the ankle of Hawks guard Dahntay Jones.

Bryant had 31 points (on 11-33 shooting), seven rebounds, five assists and two steals against the Hawks. The Lakers (34-32) still own the eight and final playoff position in the Western Conference.

It is a huge blow for the Lakers, who play at Indiana on Friday. After that, the next three games (home against Sacramento, a road game at Phoenix and at home against Washington) are against teams with losing records.

The Lakers are 14-8 in games Bryant has missed since the 2006-07 season.
