The St. Louis Rams have signed safety Matt Giordano, according to Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Giordano, 30, started 13 games for the Oakland Raiders in 2012 and recorded 36 tackles and two interceptions. In his first season with the Raiders in 2011, Giordano picked off five passes.

The eight-year pro is expected to compete with Darian Stewart for a starting job this upcoming season. Before joining the Raiders, Giordano played for the Saints, Packers and Colts.

The Rams released Don Unamba to make room for Giordano.
