Oracle Team USA won Wednesday afternoon's do-or-die final race against Emirates Team New Zealand by 44 seconds in San Francisco Bay to win the America's Cup series, 9-8.

Oracle Team USA trailed 8-1, then overcame a two-race penalty for prohibited modifications, to win the Cup.

The New York Timesreports on Oracle Team USA's celebration:

As the Oracle sailors rolled around the netting between the hulls of their AC 72, the team owner Larry Ellison pulled up to the boat with chief executive Russell Coutts to congratulate their team on the biggest, most exhilarating comeback in the history of the sport.

Emirates Team New Zealand sailed by Oracle to offer congratulations. Unfortunately, this is the third loss in a Cup finals for Dean Barker, the New Zealand skipper.
