The Washington Nationals have acquired starting pitcher Doug Fister in a trade with the Detroit Tigers.

The trade was first reported by MLB Daily Dish's Chris Cotillo. In return for the 29-year-old Fister, the Tigers received pitchers Robbie Ray and Ian Krol, along with utility player Steve Lombardozzi.

The sinker-baller started 32 games last year in Detroit, going 14-9 with a 3.67 ERA. He had 159 strikeouts and 44 walks in 208 innings.

In Washington, Fister joins a formidable rotation that already includes starters Stephen Strasburg, Jordan Zimmermann, and Gio Gonzalez. The Nationals are looking for a bounce-back year after finishing 86-76 in 2013, 10 games behind the Atlanta Braves in the National League East and 4 games out of a Wild Card spot.
