Miami Dolphins offensive tackle Jonathan Martin sat down for his first interview since leaving the team in October, telling former coach Tony Dungy he felt trapped because of the situation with teammate Richie Incognito.

A portion of that interview with Dungy aired during “NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams” on Tuesday night.

Incognito was suspended with pay for conduct  detrimental to the team after leaving vulgar and racist voicemails for Martin.

“I’m a grown man,” Martin said. “I’ve been in locker rooms. There’s vulgar languages in locker rooms. One instance doesn’t bother me. It’s the persistence of it.

“I wish I would have had more tools to solve my situation. I felt trapped, like I didn’t have a way to make it right. It came down to a point where I thought it was best just to remove myself from the situation.”
